Current Events
In 2004, the United States closed a factory in Syracuse, New York, which was the last plant to manufacture key ingredients for antibiotics domestically. Now experts are concerned with this issue, as they believe that the US is too reliant on foreign medical supplies. Scientists are calling for a law to demand certain drugs to be made in the US, not from foreign countries. In 2007, only 13 % of medicine was made in the United States, 43% in China, and 39% in India. Scientists say that the US needs to make certain medical supplies in the US because of the demand for it, such as penicillin. China controls much of the medicine and if China ever were to have a problem with Obama or the United States, our country would have a big problem. Therefore, our country needs to be more dependant upon ourselves, instead of other big countries, for medicine.
